- The Department of Psychiatry in the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) had envisioned the need for specialized mental health care of older adults in the background of population ageing two decades back and initiated the specialty clinic for older adults in the year 2000.

- Geriatric Clinic and Services works under the Department of Psychiatry, NIMHANS and caters to the people over 60 years of age (Older Adults) for their mental health issues and any adult with memory issues. It has a multi-disciplinary team of experts from Geriatric Psychiatry Unit, Department of Psychiatry and other allied departments related to mental health.
- The strength of the geriatric clinic and services at NIMHANS is the active contributions from the multi-disciplinary team of professionals from many departments spanning across the divisions of Behavioral sciences, Neurosciences and Basic sciences.
